It’s time for folks in Memphis to cut back on the barbecue — their city is the nation’s fattest, new rankings show.
Memphis topped No. 2 San Antonio, Texas, and No. 3 Richmond, Va., on a list of the 10 most obese cities compiled by The Daily Beast Web site.
Some 29.7 percent of Memphis residents are obese, and 12.4 percent are suffering from diabetes, the numbers show.

That’s well above the national averages. Gallup poll data on which the Daily Beast rankings are based say 26.1 percent of Americans are obese, and 10.9 percent have diabetes.
Memphis’ fatness levels are also significantly worse than the Big Apple’s, which didn’t even make the Daily Beast’s ranking. Some 21.5 percent of Big Apple residents are obese, and 9.7 percent have diabetes.
